| I thought for years that the English ate potato chips with fish. "fish & chips" What do the French call french fries? does the rest of the world refer to regular cheese as American cheese? do the Chinese eat hamburgers, and refer to it as "going out for American" ? And does Stoney Brah really eat lots of Kraut? I do and always blame the craving on my German ancestry | |

| When Webster released the first US dictionary, he aimed at creating a proper American spelling, out of the blue. This was for Patriotic reasons. So from one day to another, all these spellings were changed, partly because some English spelling is insane (catalogue), partly because he just wanted to differ. And since that day, you can't just learn english as a foreign language, but you have to learn both spellings | |

| I spell it (grey/gray) both ways just to be fair. Like Cheque/check color/colour neighbor/neighbour - actually I blame this all on my love of Alfred Hitchcock and reading his short story collections books since before I could spell. I do remember have a argument (3rd grade) with a teacher about color being spelled the English way, about 20 times - I brought in the Dark Side of the Moon LP to show her the next day and argue with her - "You don't live in England!" she loudly proclaimed. I lost that argument and the paper remained a C... I can't spell in any language.... | |

What do the French call french fries?

do the Chinese eat hamburgers, and refer to it as "going out for American" ?
And does Stoney Brah really eat lots of Kraut? I do and always blame the craving on my German ancestry the french word for potato is "pomme detaire" I'm sure I misspelled it. the french word for french fries is "frites" Yup, "pommes de terre" (earth apples) and "pommes frites" (=fried (earth) apples) or "frites". They're not French though, they're Belgian, but half of Belgium speaks French.
Shit, I'm a smartass. But hey, you gotta be if you want to become a teacher. It's in the job description Not as much of a smartass as me...I'm the queen smartass! You are quite right, the "french fry" was invented by the Belge. I lived there for three years and they just shorten the name to "frites" much of the time. But your spelling is much better than mine. Good luck on your teaching career. The pay sucks but it's a very rewarding experience. Not only are you forced to learn a little bit about everything, but you also learn something new everyday. Bogle, your educational system is way better then ours over here. It's not really the teachers, but the system itself and the educrats that perpetuate it.

| The problme is that in a few years, we will have a system of low, low, low level public schools and the only chance to get an education will be private schools. Private schools never played a role here so far, and public schools were pretty good, but this is the past. I'm hiring on a sinking ship What did you do in belgium? | |

What did you do in belgium? that is what happened to our public schools here too...it's all data driven and test result oriented. Assessments are important, but they've taken it way too far and teachers are not free to teach anymore. It's sad to say that most 4th graders (10 year olds) DON'T know their math facts. How are they supposed to do the higher maths? They don't know what a complete sentence is, how are they going to write a paragraph, let alone a paper? It's very depressing. If the teachers don't get with the program...they are fired, meaning they are compelled to teach in a certain way at specific times of the day... I work in a public school, but my second job is tutoring kids...pays better and and the kids are great....also, I'm free to write my own lesson plans according to the specific needs of my students. I was in Belgium from 1968-1970. My father was DIA (Defense Intelligence) right after Charles DeGaulle kicked the Americans out of France.

- On the day of the show there will be a ticket with a number given out

Once your number is called you will be able to purchase tickets for $15 a person, max. 2 tickets per person. It is not allowed to reserve seats for other people.
